The Survivability Scale© captures the essence of what we are up against. Learn more about the Scale from an excerpt from the soon-to-be-published book: Survivability, A friendly guide to the end of the world (Don’t Panic)

Excerpt from Chapter 4 of my new book

The Survivability Scale© is loosely based on the Richter Scale, which is used to measure the magnitude of earthquakes. The coming impacts due to global heating will make the San Francisco Earthquake seem mild in comparison. Here is how it works: The ‘X’ axis across the bottom denotes time. The ‘Y’ axis denotes the level of destruction x our ability to survive. The 5 Levels also reflect temperatures. Level for example is 4 dgrees of global heatng above pre-industrial levels.

Hidden in plain sight is a positive message, a vision of the future where we humans learn to survive and thrive in 4 Degree C of global heating.

As you can see from the Scale, at the time this book was written, we’re just on the verge of breaking into Level 2 (we actually did cross the 2 degree Celsius threshold for a single day in 2024. So, we’re on the fast track to Level 3, then Level 4, then (ahem)…Level 5. Don’t Panic!
